Online wedding dress shopping guidelines from our designer Daci

It has been on my mind to share a few thoughts when you decide to shop for wedding dresses online. We’ve been having a lot of last minute brides that contacted us lately. Online wedding dress shopping is not always bad but not all always good either. We have been helping last minute brides with bad online experiences.

Online wedding dress shopping has become very popular the past year. Many brides are choosing small weddings or elopements over the traditional weddings. Going with smaller weddings the brides now days are drawn to non traditional wedding dresses. there are many places online where you can find lovely dresses at a wide range of prices.

  • The first and most important thing you should consider before you buy the wedding dress is to contact a local seamstress, or bridal alteration shop. An experienced seamstress can tell you if the dress you consider buying is well done and good quality. She can also share with you other brides experiences and will help you make a decision which way you want to go. You will need alterations done on your wedding dress when it arrives so discussing with a seamstress before hand is probably the best advice I can give the brides. The seamstress can also help you with the measurements and determine the dress size.

  • The second thing is timing. Start early. Make sure you have plenty time before your wedding to return the dress if it doesn’t fit or is poor quality, time to alter the dress if needed, or you might have to shop for another wedding dress.

  • The price is also to be considered. How much you want to spend and willing to loose if the wedding dress that you order is not refundable, or you don’t have enough time to get another one in time.

  • The business’ reputation is also important. Most brands have reviews on their products and try to read them all. Look for customers reviews and customers photos. Read the reviews that talk about the way the product fits and if its true to size. Most of the problems are created by the photos. The wedding dress looks amazing in the photos listed on the web and terrible in person.

Those are a few guidelines before you start wedding dress shopping. Again, many brides are happy with the wedding dresses they purchased online. I wanted to share those thoughts after seeing a handful of brides this year with bad experiences. The good news is that we were able to help some of them and re-direct the others to other bridal shops.

We design all of our dresses locally and we have great wedding dress processing times. We’ve been able to help last minute brides or brides with short engagements. Hoping those online wedding dress shopping tips are helpful.
